Meet Dr. Ann-Marie John

Dr. Ann-Marie John, PhD, MSN, BSN, RN, is a highly accomplished healthcare professional and academic leader with over three decades of experience in clinical practice, nursing education, and administrative leadership. Based in Buffalo, NY, Dr. John has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing the nursing profession through her expertise in patient care, curriculum development, and strategic program management.

Academic Achievements

Dr. John’s impressive academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Medical University of South Carolina (2017), a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Rochester (1995), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Magna Cum Laude, from SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (1990). She began her career with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude, from New York City Technical College (1985).

Professional Experience
Director, Wellness and Prevention, Community Health Center of Buffalo (2022 – Present)

Dr. John currently oversees the Prevention and Wellness department which includes three primary programs: 1) Chronic Disease Management, 2) Older Adult Age Friendly, and 3) Cancer Screening while assisting the Chief Medical Officer with clinical leadership and the development of groundbreaking programs targeting chronic disease management, older adult health and wellness initiatives and cancer screening. Her role extends to coordinating student clinical rotations, community engagement activities and grant writing and oversight.

Professional Experience: Dean, Catherine McAuley School of Nursing, Trocaire College (2019 – 2022)

As Dean, Dr. John served as the chief academic administrator for the nursing division, managing operations across multiple academic programs. She led efforts to redefine curriculum development, enhance assessment protocols, and secure accreditation compliance while fostering strategic partnerships and directing grant-writing initiatives to support student success.

Academic Leadership Roles

Dr. John’s academic contributions include serving as Associate Professor of Nursing at Northern Virginia Community College (2015 – 2019), where she chaired the Nursing Division Curriculum Committee and mentored new faculty. As Assistant Dean of Nursing at the same institution (2012 – 2015), she spearheaded curriculum development and retention strategies. Earlier roles include Simulation & Nursing Lab Manager and Clinical Adjunct positions at George Mason University, Shenandoah University, and Monroe Community College, where she inspired the next generation of nursing professionals.

 
Clinical Expertise

Dr. John’s clinical expertise is rooted in her early career as a Surgical Intensive Care Nurse and Post-Anesthesia Care Nurse at leading institutions such as Strong Memorial Hospital and Kings County Hospital. Her roles included Nurse Manager and Administrative Nurse Leader, where she supervised large teams, managed multi-million-dollar budgets, and implemented quality improvement initiatives.

 
Certifications

Dr. John holds multiple certifications, including Certified Diabetic Retinopathy Photographer, Mental Health First Aid, and Clinical Translational Research Training. She is also certified in American Heart Association CPR with AED.
